Our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion across every aspect of the Walsall Awards programme.

1. Our commitment


Walsall Awards is proud to celebrate the people, businesses and organisations that make our borough remarkable, and we are committed to ensuring that the awards reflect the rich diversity of Walsall and the wider West Midlands.

We promote equality of opportunity and treat all individuals with dignity and respect. Discrimination, bullying, harassment or victimisation of any kind will not be tolerated in any part of the Walsall Awards programme.

2. Scope


This policy applies to:

  • The board of trustees and ambassadors of Walsall Awards
  • The judging panel
  • Nominees and nominators
  • Sponsors, partners and suppliers
  • Guests, attendees and volunteers at any Walsall Awards event
  • Anyone interacting with us through our website, social media or in person

3. Protected characteristics


In line with the Equality Act 2010, we do not discriminate on the basis of any of the nine protected characteristics:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Gender reassignment
  • Marriage and civil partnership
  • Pregnancy and maternity
  • Race
  • Religion or belief
  • Sex
  • Sexual orientation

4. Nominations and judging


Nominations are open to individuals, businesses, charities, educators, sports clubs and community organisations across the Walsall borough, regardless of background, identity or affiliation.

Judging is undertaken by an independent panel using a consistent set of criteria for each category. Judges are asked to declare any conflicts of interest. Where a conflict exists, that judge will recuse themselves from the decision for the relevant category.

5. Accessibility


We are committed to making the Walsall Awards accessible to all. Where attendees have access requirements, we ask that they let us know in advance so we can make reasonable adjustments to support their attendance. Please contact info@walsallawards.co.uk with any access needs.

6. Reporting and complaints


Anyone with a concern relating to equality, diversity or inclusion in connection with the Walsall Awards is encouraged to contact us in confidence at info@walsallawards.co.uk. All concerns will be taken seriously and handled sensitively.

7. Review


This policy is reviewed annually and updated as required. It is approved by the board of trustees of Walsall Awards.
